Artistic Team

Our Artistic Team brings together experience, passion, and creativity to help every member shine. Together, they select music, lead rehearsals, and inspire the choir to explore new challenges while celebrating our rich musical traditions.

Artistic Director

Mia Miličević

With a strong performance, academic, leadership, and teaching background, Mia was appointed Artistic Director of the CCCS in late 2022.

Mia first connected with the choir in 2019 when she received its annual Merit Award scholarship to support her music studies at Queen’s University. That same year, she performed solo at the spring concert and appeared as a guest performer throughout the season.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Mia kept the choir connected by developing and leading online rehearsals. Between 2020 and 2022, she served as sectional leader for all four vocal ranges—soprano, alto, tenor, and bass—and began leading full-choir rehearsals in 2021.

As Artistic Director, Mia works closely with the board and with the choir’s Music Director, Adam Mezgec, to plan concerts, select and adapt music, sequence songs, and coordinate guest performers, musicians, and costumes. Her focus is on preparing choir members for performances, ensuring every voice blends, and bringing music to life with clear dynamics, diction, and emotion.

"Music is like telling a story. To captivate the audience, everyone must hit the right notes and convey the emotion behind the music. We want our audience to feel the music and become part of it."

Thrilled to lead the choir, Mia looks forward to helping members learn, grow, and experience the joy of performing live choral music together.

Music Director

Adam Mezgec

Working alongside Artistic Director Mia Miličević, Adam is the choir’s Music Director, with primary responsibilities as accompanist and music arranger. A 2017 Merit Award recipient, he is an accomplished pianist, composer, music teacher, and professional music supervisor.

As part of his role, Adam begins his work well before rehearsals, deconstructing each piece and creating custom arrangements for soprano, alto, tenor, and bass voices, along with piano accompaniment. He and Mia then teach each vocal part to the choristers, demonstrating melodies by section and providing digital recordings so members can practice at home.

Adam is part creator, part teacher, part role model—and a full-time musician who loves every aspect of his work. “I believe in the work of the choir,” he says. “Sharing music with others brings joy and can have a powerful, uplifting impact.”

Passionate about helping members reach their potential, Adam provides guidance on vocal technique, jumps in on piano or sings with sections that need extra support, and gives constructive feedback to bring out the best in each chorister. Throughout his life, he has coached many groups and individuals, teaching piano, voice, choir, tamburica (Croatia’s traditional string instrument), and even swimming.

Collaborative & Flexible Leadership
Mia and Adam work closely to help the choir learn new music and achieve their best sound. Using both in-person rehearsals and online tools when needed, they provide focused, efficient coaching for each vocal section. Their approach balances guidance, challenge, and flexibility—ensuring every member can grow and shine, even when life or weather makes it difficult to attend in person.
