Our History

Founded in 2013, the Canadian Croatian Choral Society (CCCS) was established with a clear and heartfelt purpose: to preserve and celebrate Croatia’s rich musical heritage while sharing the joy and power of choral music with the wider community. From the very beginning, the choir has stood as a bridge between generations, cultures, and traditions, honouring the past while inspiring new voices to carry this legacy forward.

Under the visionary leadership of founding artistic director Edward J. Mavrinac, the choir quickly grew into a vibrant and distinctive cultural and choral presence. Ed is an award-winning music educator and accomplished conductor with a distinguished career defined by decades of choral leadership, deep cultural commitment, and festival direction across Canada. Over the past decade, CCCS, under Ed’s direction, has offered concerts, community performances, and special events that have united singers and audiences through music rooted in tradition, connection, and shared identity. His unwavering dedication, professionalism, and passion laid the foundation for the choir’s artistic standards and nurtured its enduring spirit. Most importantly, his leadership helped preserve and celebrate a living Croatian musical legacy that continues to resonate in every performance.

Since its founding, CCCS has performed a diverse repertoire spanning traditional Croatian works, sacred music, and contemporary choral compositions. The choir has shared its music locally and internationally, building meaningful connections with audiences across Canada and Europe while fostering a strong sense of community among its members.

Today, CCCS continues to honour its history and Croatian roots while embracing new creative directions, carrying forward a legacy built on heart, heritage, and harmony.
